Do you know What Hypertension is? Do You Know What Your Blood Pressure numbers are?
Let’s Start There- Blood Pressure is the force of the Blood in the arteries as the heart beats. The first number (on top) is the Pressure when the heart is working (mid-beat) and the bottom number is when the heart is resting (between beats).
Studies recently changed the perimeters again for Blood Pressure, lowering them even more. It was long thought that 150/90 was ‘Normal’ and you were considered ‘in control’ of your Hypertension. But the medical community kept seeing people with strokes, heart attacks and kidney failure at those numbers, especially in People of Color. Slowly the Medical community saw these devastating events as being directly related to the blood pressure and began modifying it in the late 1990’s. As of last week, 130/70 is Normal and anything over that (consistently over that) is considered Hypertension.
Knowing Your Blood Pressure Numbers and Understanding the Direct effect it has on Your Long-Term Health is Essential.
So Now, I ask again,
What is Your Blood Pressure?
